The Great Bookend Challenge

In August of 2010, an intergenerational group used a variety of common household items to create awesome art at Red Deer Public Library. As a result, we decided to challenge the community to create bookends out of odds and ends that might otherwise end up in the dump.

Here are some bookends created by Red Deer artist Paul Boultbee, using recycled materials.

How to Enter:

Use your old junk to create a bookend or two. Take photos of what you created. Put copies of the photos along with a submission form (see below) into an envelope. Write ”Book End Project” on the envelope and leave it at the Circulation Desk at the Downtown Branch (4818-49 St.) or Dawe Branch (56 Holt St.) of Red Deer Public Library. Or email a jpeg and the submission form to dfrey@rdpl.org with the Subject line of “Book End Project”. When you submit your piece, be sure to include the submission form included in this PDF document.

We will showcase photos of the winning entries at a show in the fall just before and after Red Deer’s Earthdance Festival (September 24). We will also feature them on our “rediscover green” website: www.rediscovergreen.ca.

Prize: A “rediscover green” book bag filled with RDPL goodies and your choice of up to 5 books at the next Library book sale on October 15, 2011. (Thanks to The Friends of Red Deer Public Library!)
